Plan your trip with the Colombian calendar

The joy that moves the country
Did you know that in Colombia, holiday Mondays are practically a national tradition? Thanks to the famous 'Emiliani Law,' most of our days off are moved to Monday, creating the popular long weekends. For a traveler, this is key: these are weekends where towns are filled with fairs, public transportation is busier, and joy is palpable on every corner. Here's how to understand our calendar so you can decide if you want to join the national celebration or prefer to find a peaceful spot during the busiest days.

When is the best time to visit us?
Colombia is a year-round destination, but your experience can vary depending on the season. High Season coincides with Colombian holidays (December to mid-January, Easter, and June-July); during these times, the most popular destinations are vibrant and lively, although prices tend to be higher. If you're looking for peace and quiet and better rates, Low Season (February to May and September to November) is ideal. Keep in mind that, although there aren't distinct seasons, January and August are usually the sunniest months in much of the country.

Stations in Colombia?
Forget winter, spring, summer, or autumn. In Colombia, we live in distinct thermal zones. This means the climate doesn't depend on the month, but rather on altitude. Want tropical heat? The coasts and plains await you. Prefer spring-like weather? Medellín is your place. Looking for mountain chill? Bogotá and the Andes are for you. Here, you can go from the Caribbean warmth to the snow-capped peaks in a single day trip. Pack layers and be prepared for anything!

The Heart of the Party
Colombia is synonymous with celebration. Our calendar is filled with events that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From the colorful Barranquilla Carnival in February, through the elegance of the Flower Festival in Medellín (August), to the mysticism of Holy Week in Popayán. In addition, each town has its own "Return Festivals." Traveling during a festival is the best way to experience the soul of our culture, taste unique traditional cuisine, and dance to the rhythm of our traditions.
